Meeting the family - Spanish in Mexico Blog by Callie Barrett

It's the day before the course and we have all met our families and settled into what will be home for the next month.

Having arrived on Saturday, and due to the wonder that is Facebook, I've spent the last 2 days with a couple of people from the course - Martin and Cass. We all stayed at the same hostel and had a ball negotiating our way around Downtown Mexico City. From the markets, to the Zocalo, buying mobile phones and coffee...getting to practice our Spanish and personally realising that I've got a long way to go before I'm fully comfortable doing anything more than the most basic of interactions. I am very keen to see how different it feels in 30 days!

My house mother, Maria, is very lovely. She doesn't speak a word of English and the other 3 girls don't speak a word of Spanish, my Spanish is patchy, but it's working. The house is great, with a little pup and in a lovely street.

Can't wait for tomorrow x

Callie Barrett is participating in our January 2012 Intensive Spanish program at La Salle University, Mexico. Callie is about to enter into her 4th year of a Bachelor of Arts (double degree in Spanish and English) at Flinders University.
